💥 Inflection debuts AI model to rival Google and OpenAI (link)

Inflection, an AI startup, has unveiled its large language model called Inflection-1. It performs well in various benchmarks but lags behind in coding tasks compared to GPT-3.5 and GPT-4.

I have personally used the “HeyPi” mobile app and so far I believe it is one of the best personal AI assistants apps in the game. Bill Gates, alongside numerous tech executives and investors, strongly believes that the first company to successfully launch an advanced and user-friendly AI personal assistant will gain a significant commercial edge. Inflection plans to publish results for a larger model in the future. An Independent evaluation of Inflection's benchmarks is necessary, but as of now, users can try out Pi, powered by Inflection-1, on messaging apps or online.

Midjourney, an AI image generator, has released its latest version 5.2 with exciting new features and is mind-blowing.

The "Zoom Out" feature allows users to expand the field of view, with options to zoom out by 1.5x and 2x. Additionally, the update includes a "Make Square" option and a "Custom Zoom" tool for altering text prompts and aspect ratios. The new version also introduces a "shorten command" option, enabling users to analyze the impact of words on the generated image. In tests, Midjourney performed well with zooming out but had difficulties with changing aspect ratios. Midjourney v5.2 is accessible through a Discord channel and pricing plans. Worth playing with it.

These annotators determine whether a response should be included or removed, requiring thousands of work hours. The labor can be demanding and exploitative, as seen in cases involving workers in Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Kenya.

Data annotators play a crucial role in AI development, from training models to fine-tuning them post-launch. Their work offers important context and sophistication to AI systems. However, challenges arise, such as annotators having to understand unfamiliar concepts or align with the company's priorities.

Furthermore, the general public unknowingly contributes their labor by providing personal data and participating in online activities, which are used to train AI models that generate profits for companies.
