Thank you for being part of our community, Let’s dive in:

Deepfake startups are getting richer than a pirate with a treasure chest. In 2017, they got $1 million from VCs, but in 2022, they pocketed a cool $187.7 million! By 2023, they've already bagged another $50 million. It's like a raining money party!

The tools to spot these crafty deepfakes are about as fast as a sloth on vacation. The market for them was worth $3.86 billion in 2022, and it's growing like a weed.

Now, meet the kings of the castle: Runway from NYC, valued at $1.5 billion; Synthesia from London, who nabbed $50 million; and Deepdub from Israel, who reeled in $20 million. They're making fake videos and images that are as real as a unicorn at a rodeo, and let’s not even talk about audio clone apps which have created headaches for record labels and made it easier for scammers to fake your loved one's voice.

But hey, some are doing good stuff, like making ads and training videos. And then there are the rotten eggs, scamming folks with fake apps that claim to use AI like ChatGPT. So, folks, always double-check before you dive into a new app. Because anything can be fAIk these days.

🤖⚖️🤖 ChatGPT vs. Bard: A comparison (link)

The blog post "ChatGPT vs. Bard: A realistic comparison" uses these large language models (LLMs) for various tasks related to his product, Apricot, and decided to compare them after Google released Bard with its new PaLM 2 LLM.

The author set up a series of challenges for the two AI systems, including:

  1. Summarizing long-form content: ChatGPT was declared the winner because Bard's summary was too terse and conveyed very little information.

  2. Writing a Python function: ChatGPT won again, as it provided a more accurate Python function for parsing an OPML file after a few iterations. Bard's function had multiple issues, and despite correcting some of them after feedback, it still didn't fully understand the structure of the OPML file.

  3. Proposing social media marketing tactics: Both AI systems provided good advice about posting on Hacker News, understanding the culture and giving useful tips. This challenge was considered a tie.

  4. Writing a customized tweet: This challenge also ended in a tie. Bard initially refused to generate the requested tweet, but it provided an acceptable response after a few attempts. ChatGPT generated a good tweet, but it was too long and needed to be edited to fit within Twitter's character limit.

ChatGPT was declared the winner as it performed better in summarizing and Python coding tasks, which were important for the author's use case. Even though the two systems are tied in the remaining challenges, the author found the $20/month for ChatGPT to be a worthwhile investment given its superior performance. However, he also mentioned that he was happy to see competition in this space and expected Bard to improve quickly.
