Gemini Image Creation and Research Capabilities.

In the last edition, we shared how to use the Google extension in the new Google Gemini AI model. I did the demonstration and played with it while using the free version, which is fantastic. But yesterday I decided to upgrade to take advantage of the 2-month free trial of the advanced version. I did put it on my calendar to cancel it or if it’s better than ChatGPT, I will cancel my ChatGPT subscription, we shall see.

Today, I prompted Google Gemini for images for the AI legislature article below (right image) and another one for “2 old philosopher gurus having coffee and discussing serious matters with the ocean in the background.” I like that it gives you several (3-4) images to choose from or to improve as opposed to ChatGPT which only provides one as output. I also find them more realistic than ChatGPTs when using simple prompts. Check them:

Furthermore, we utilized Google Gemini for financial research, yielding unexpectedly rich results. Leveraging its Google search integration, we accessed a wealth of data and graphs. Unlike other models, Gemini excels in searching and spitting out detailed graphs and images, likely benefiting from Google's unparalleled data access, enabling it to deliver more insightful outputs. However, one image was inaccurate, reminding us of the importance of verifying AI-generated content before use. Check our results here.

I would like to hear about your experiences playing with Google Gemini, share them in the comments.

ChatGPT now has a Memory. This is how to use it and its Pros and Cons.

OpenAI is enhancing ChatGPT to deliver a more tailored and seamless conversational experience. With its new memory featureChatGPT can now recall important details from past interactions, such as your address, what you like, work details, or specific interests. This allows ChatGPT to provide even more relevant and helpful responses, transforming it into a powerful digital assistant. But, this also more personal information stored in OpenAI and Microsoft Servers that could be jeopardized and raise privacy concerns, so don’t overshare.

How to Use ChatGPT's Memory

  • Naturally: Let the conversation flow organically. ChatGPT will automatically pick up and retain essential information for future use.

  • Explicit Commands:

    • To ask ChatGPT to remember something: "Please remember..."

    • To view stored memories: "What do you remember?"

    • To delete a memory: "Please forget..."

    • To clear all memories or turn off memory completely: Access your Settings

  • Temporary Chats: This new feature provides an option for conversations and memories not to be retained long-term.

Pros

  • Enhanced user experience: Conversations become more relevant and tailored to your specific needs.

  • Assistant-like qualities: ChatGPT can handle reminders, follow instructions based on preferences, and personalize tasks.

Cons

  • Potential for errors: Like any memory system, even human memory, ChatGPT's recall might contain occasional inaccuracies.

  • Privacy Considerations: Storing specific conversational data could potentially raise privacy concerns for some users.

Important Notes

  • OpenAI allows users full control over their conversational data with memory settings.

  • The feature is initially rolling out to a limited group of users of both free and paid ChatGPT services.

  • OpenAI emphasizes its commitment to data privacy and ensuring users can personalize their data collection levels, but don’t overshare and be aware of what you do share.

AI Legislation on the Rise World Wide, Politicians are scared.

State legislatures are taking active steps to address the rapid advancements in AI technology. As of February, over 40 US states have introduced more than 400 AI-related bills, a dramatic increase from just one year ago. The primary focus of legislation centers on addressing topics like algorithmic bias, deepfakes, and AI's use in elections.

Key Points

  • AI draft legislation has jumped six-fold compared to last year.

  • Deepfakes are a critical focus, with half of all recent bills related to this issue.

  • States with thriving AI industries (California, New York) are actively driving legislation.

  • Advocacy groups express concern that stringent regulations could disproportionately hurt AI startups.

AI Bots Targeting 2024 Elections

A new study highlights the potential disruptive dangers large language models (LLMs) pose for election integrity. Experts predict AI bots will become much more sophisticated, deploying a combination of AI-generated disinformation and automated social media accounts to target voters worldwide.

Critical Insights

  • AI will intensify election disinformation with daily content targeting over 50 countries in 2024.

  • Smaller platforms with less moderation fuel online hate speech and disinformation.

  • Identifying and restricting specific content creators may be more effective than outright AI detection.
