Get Ready to Talk to Humanoids

Agility's integration of large language models (LLMs) into its humanoid robots, such as Digit, signals a transformative shift in the realm of robotics, impacting work, communication, and the proliferation of AI-driven robots.

This technology enables robots to understand and execute complex tasks via natural language, making human-robot interaction more intuitive and efficient. It reduces the need for intricate programming, leading to faster task deployment and enhanced workplace collaboration. This means that the need to communicate effectively is a skill to have for many generations to come. Furthermore, the ability of these robots to learn from minimal human demonstrations and exhibit more fluid, human-like behaviors broadens their applications across various sectors. This advancement not only promises to revolutionize the dynamics of how we work alongside robots but also indicates a significant surge in the use of AI-powered robots for diverse tasks, facilitating more natural and effective communication between humans and machines.

EX-Google CEO plans to solve AI Misinformation

Eric Schmidt, the former CEO of Google, outlines a six-point strategy to combat the rising tide of AI-driven election misinformation. This plan comes as the world faces its largest election year in 2024, with over 4 billion people voting in key countries. The increasing use of AI, especially in the form of deepfakes, in political campaigns has heightened the urgency to address misinformation.

Schmidt's plan includes:

1. Verifying Human Users: Differentiating real users from bots on social media, ensuring accountability while maintaining privacy, similar to user verification on platforms like Uber.

2. Knowing Content Source: Implementing time stamps and encrypted IP addresses for content to trace origins and curb the spread of misinformation by bad actors.

3. Identifying Deepfakes: Developing tools to detect and label AI-generated content, similar to spam detection on phones, to combat the misuse of deepfake technology.

4. Filtering Advertisers: Sharing a 'safe list' of advertisers across platforms, enforcing advertising laws, and requiring disclaimers for AI-used political ads.

5. Human Oversight: Utilizing human moderators, in addition to AI, to police misinformation, drawing inspiration from Wikipedia's model of community-driven content moderation.

6. Investing in Research: Encouraging long-term engagement and research, including the development of open-source testing frameworks and providing access to critical platform data for research and transparency.

Schmidt emphasizes the need for a collective effort involving companies, regulators, and Congress to implement these measures effectively, but I am honestly not sure how realistic this plan is as even before the AI hype, we had a social media environment full of lies and misleading news. There are networks (such as X) that may not abide by certain rules to eradicate misinformation, because, the term seems to have a different meaning for different people. Schmidt’s plan stresses the need for social media platforms to redesign their algorithms and structures for the AI age, focusing on real human engagement and decentralized online spaces that cater to diverse interests, which seem difficult to police in different jurisdictions, countries, and platforms. This approach aims to uphold a healthy standard of discourse and prevent the rampant spread of AI-enabled election misinformation, but we shall see what the results are next year when elections come.

AI is learning by Watching Videos just like Us.

Meta's Ego-Exo4D, created in collaboration with 15 universities, is a pioneering AI video learning dataset that merges first-person and third-person camera views. With contributions from over 800 participants worldwide and more than 1,400 hours of video, it aims to advance AI's grasp of complex human skills. This large, multimodal dataset, set to be open-sourced, includes audio, inertial data, and 3D scans, and is designed for diverse applications in augmented reality, robot learning, and social networking. Ego-Exo4D also establishes key tasks for AI video learning research, paving the way for AI technologies to more accurately interpret and mimic human actions and behaviors.

🤔 What Does that even Mean?

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs): A type of deep neural network often used in image recognition and processing that is specifically designed to process pixel data.

Example: A photo app uses a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) to categorize user-uploaded photos. When someone uploads a beach picture, CNN identifies features like sand and water to tag it as a beach scene automatically.
