Is AI Hurting Job Prospects for New Grads?

The unemployment rate gap between young people with a bachelor's degree and those with less education.
Recent college grads are facing higher unemployment—nearly 6% for ages 22–27 with a bachelor’s degree—compared to just over 4% for the general workforce, according to Oxford Economics.
AI is likely a factor. Entry-level white-collar roles are being displaced as automation makes senior workers more productive. The job market is undergoing a white-collar recession, unlike past downturns that hit non-degree holders harder. AI’s productivity gains may benefit the economy eventually, but for now, it’s sidelining young talent.

Samsung and Perplexity Close to Major AI Deal
Samsung is finalizing a major deal with AI startup Perplexity to integrate its search and assistant tools across future Galaxy devices. The partnership may include:
Preloading Perplexity’s app on Samsung phones.
Embedding AI search in Samsung’s web browser.
Enhancing Bixby with Perplexity tech2.
Potential inclusion as the default assistant in the Galaxy S26, expected in early 2026.

Samsung is also expected to lead a $500 million funding round that would value Perplexity at $14 billion, up from its last reported $1 billion valuation in early 2024.
This move could reduce Samsung’s reliance on Google and signal a broader shift toward multi-AI ecosystems, mirroring Apple’s strategy.
It also positions Perplexity as a key player in mobile AI, which could significantly boost Perplexity’s market value, user reach, and strategic clout, and potentially push its valuation beyond $14B in subsequent rounds.

The AI Browser Revolution

Traditional web browsers are evolving into intelligent platforms that not only display content but also understand user intent, automate tasks, and generate content. We are use to google listing links that potentially have the answer to our search or queries, but do not truly give us answers. The AI browsers will provide legitimate answers with sources and images and videos if needed., Wil will be able to interact with them via audio and provide images and live video for summaries and more information what we are seeing and thinking. This shift is driven by advancements in AI, particularly large language models, enabling browsers to act as proactive assistants.
Leading AI Browser Initiatives
Opera Neon: Opera has introduced Opera Neon, an "agentic" browser designed to perform tasks based on user intent. It includes:
Chat: An integrated AI agent for contextual web searches and information retrieval.
Do: Automation of routine web tasks like form filling and bookings.
Make: Creation of content such as games, reports, and websites, even when offline.
Dia by The Browser Company: Transitioning from its previous browser, Arc, The Browser Company is developing Dia, an AI-centric browser that integrates chatbot interfaces directly into the browsing experience. Dia aims to understand the entire browser window, allowing users to perform complex actions through simple commands, such as summarizing tabs or automating shopping tasks.
OpenAI's Operator: OpenAI is working on Operator, an AI agent capable of autonomously performing web-based tasks like filling forms, placing orders, and scheduling appointments. While still in limited access, Operator represents OpenAI's foray into integrating AI directly into browsing activities.
The emergence of AI-powered browsers signifies a shift in how users access and interact with web content:
Content Summarization: AI browsers can summarize or pre-empt content, potentially reducing direct traffic to publishers' websites.
Task Automation: Routine online activities can be automated, enhancing user efficiency but also challenging traditional web engagement models.
Privacy Considerations: Browsers like Opera Neon emphasize local processing to preserve user privacy, setting new standards for data handling in AI integrations.
