It’s All About Video

Meta is doubling down on video, as 60% of user time on Facebook and Instagram is spent on videos. At Advertising Week, Meta introduced "Video Expansion" to enhance video aspect ratios with AI, tools to create videos from images, and a Partnership Ads Hub for managing creator collaborations.

Video content now accounts for 82% of all internet traffic, solidifying its role as a key driver of digital marketing. Brands using video see higher visibility and conversions, with consumers 64% more likely to buy after watching a product video. The rise of video is reshaping consumer behavior, and embracing it today is crucial for staying competitive.

Meta also launched a full-screen video tab for Reels and a new monetization program called Facebook Content Monetization. The company aims to attract younger users and boost engagement through AI-powered video tools.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang talks about the future of AI.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang highlighted the company's rapid progress, including building the fastest supercomputer for X’s in just 19 days. This success stems from Nvidia's full-stack AI platform, integrating hardware and software, and its widespread use across cloud services like AWS and Azure.

Huang emphasized the growing demand for AI inference, likening it to a new "Industrial Revolution" that will significantly boost productivity. Nvidia is focused on building increasingly powerful AI systems annually, staying ahead of competition from custom chips like Google’s TPUs.

Looking ahead, Huang sees a future where Nvidia's 50,000 employees work alongside 100 million AI assistants, positioning Nvidia as the leader in global AI infrastructure and industry transformation.

Putting It All Together

Nvidia's ambition to build a more powerful computer every year requires immense time, dedication, and energy. But given the current tech landscape, it might be the only way to keep up with expanding demands. Nearly every industry is now a tech industry, increasingly dependent on advanced technology.

This growth relies on a complex infrastructure—from cloud systems to GPUs to the electric grid—all sustaining our digital world. For example, typing these words involves a vast, often invisible system: Grammarly AI catches errors, the document is saved to a cloud, and then shared. Adding videos and images to my newsletter requires even more infrastructure, with video being a key driver of social media engagement.

Companies like Meta are focusing on AI-generated video, which boosts user engagement but demands more computing power, electricity, and cloud storage. If anyone with a phone can create videos from prompts, platforms like Instagram could be flooded with AI-generated video comments. A meme can express a million words; imagine the impact of AI-generated videos. Millions of videos created daily will need processing and storage, adding to an already immense digital load.

In fields like healthcare, construction, and education, it's clear we need unprecedented computing power—soon pushing us to build new systems every few months. Google is already turning to nuclear energy to power its infrastructure, and other tech giants may have to follow until we find innovative solutions for this energy-hungry cycle.
