OpenAI Faces $5bn Loss in 2024, This is Why.

OpenAI is projected to spend nearly $7 billion on training and inference costs in 2024, primarily due to heavy usage of Microsoft's servers for ChatGPT. The company operates around 350,000 servers with Nvidia A100 chips, costing approximately $1.30 per server per hour at discounted rates. Training new AI models could add $3 billion to expenses. With a workforce of 1,500, personnel costs are expected to reach $1.5 billion. Despite generating $3.5 to $4.5 billion in revenue, including $2 billion from ChatGPT, OpenAI anticipates a $5 billion shortfall and may need additional funding within a year.
