Midweek already and temperatures continue to rise. With the world heating up the demand for advanced cooling solutions is escalating to keep data centers running. In the past six months alone, our data output has doubled, fueling growth across the data center industryâincluding in GPUs, racks, liquid cooling technologies, chips, and carbon emissions management. The rapid advancement and affordability of robotics are accelerating this trend. These increasingly accessible humanoid robots are major data producers, continually driving the need for more sophisticated cooling systems. This dynamic sector shows no signs of slowing, presenting both challenges and opportunities for our industry. Letâs dig into this!!!

The North America's Data Center Boom.
North America's data center capacity has significantly expanded, with the addition of 515 megawatts (MW) in the first half of 2024, matching the entire existing inventory of Silicon Valley. Despite this growth, the demand for data centers continues to outpace supply due to the rising needs of cloud computing and AI industries.
Currently, most new constructions are pre-leased and vacancy rates have hit a record low of 2.8%. Supply chain issues, including delays in obtaining necessary equipment like transformers and generators, contribute to multi-year construction delays. However, demand remains strong, with companies securing spaces for future use and renewing leases for existing, albeit outdated, facilities to meet their immediate needs. This persistent demand has driven rental rates up by 6.5% nationally, favoring data center landlords and operators, a trend expected to persist in the coming years.
This Robots Will Fix Your Roof.
Robotics are advancing exponentially with the help of computer vision and AI. Renovate Robotics introduced its new rooftop robot, the Rufus V1, which automates the installation of roof shinglesâa common and hazardous construction task. This latest model, developed by the New York-based company, is faster and more accurate than its predecessors, despite being about half the weight. The Rufus V1 features a modular arm that can be adapted for various tasks, though it currently only installs shingles.
Future versions are expected to handle shingle removal and solar panel installations as well, this can make this job safer, but take lots of those jobs away if adopted at massive scales.
Robot Prices Have Also Dropped.
Unitree Robotics has launched the G1 humanoid robot, priced competitively at $16,000, significantly lower than its previous $150,000 model. This rapid development positions the G1 as an accessible option for research and business use, featuring advanced movement capabilities and equipped with high-tech sensors. Unitree, holding a 60% global market share in quadruped robots, aims to extend its market dominance into humanoid robotics, competing against major players like Boston Dynamics and Tesla. The G1 is targeted at industries such as manufacturing and healthcare, although mass production has not yet been confirmed.
