Google’s Bard Can Now Access your Gmail and Google Drive.

Google's AI chatbot Bard can now search users' Gmail, Drive, and Docs to find and summarize information, raising some privacy concerns - though Google states it won't use personal data to train Bard's public model. Bard is also gaining integrations with Maps, YouTube, Flights, and more to pull real-time info. Other updates include a "Google It" button to validate Bard's answers against Search, highlighting corroborated and unvalidated info, plus support for continued conversations from shared links. Since launching in February, Google has steadily expanded Bard's capabilities, aiming to make the chatbot a versatile AI assistant.

Specialized LLMs vs. General-Purpose LLMs

Entrepreneurs and investors are questioning whether specialized large-language models (LLMs) are more effective than general-purpose LLMs like OpenAI's. Former GitHub CTO Jason Warner, a key figure behind GitHub Copilot, is now developing an LLM to automate coding, focusing on STEM fields. Poolside, the coding LLM startup he co-founded, is pursuing niche data sources from the open Web. They aim to create a large LLM, potentially larger than GPT-4, to unlock emergent abilities, such as advanced mathematical problem-solving. To support this endeavor, Poolside has raised $126 million in funding.

Specialized LLMs are often more effective in tasks closely aligned with their training data, as they possess in-depth knowledge and context. General-purpose LLMs, while versatile, may not match the performance and domain-specific expertise of specialized models. The decision hinges on the specific task's demands and the importance of domain knowledge.
