🤔 Will AI save the world?

The question of whether AI will save the world is subjective, it really depends on who you ask. Marc Andreessen just published a great post full of gems that state why AI will save the world and makes the case that AI is the greatest invention of all time, as the technology can be used to make every single aspect of human life better. He advocates for the free reign of AI apps including open-source AI developments without any regulation and/or government restrictions. Small and big firms alike should be able to develop as aggressively as they like.

The world has seen several revolutionary technologies (from the printing press to the internet) that, according to certain groups, threatened humanity, but we are still here, better than ever, and reaping the benefits of those technological advancements that have come before us.

Marc Andreessen has an outstanding track record as an American entrepreneur, venture capital investor, and software engineer. He is the co-author of Mosaic, the first widely used web browser with a graphical user interface; co-founder of Netscape, and co-founder and general partner of Silicon Valley venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz. He is a businessman that is looking to capitalize on any technological boom and the free deployment of AI is a better bet for investors and venture capitalists than the careful, regulated development of the technology.

He is right in stating that technology makes us more productive, which normally leads to lower prices for products and services and faster and better production, but in the process, jobs will be shuffled, some will be lost others will be created. Whoever is aware of the technological shifts and pivoting to learn and adapt will be able to adapt, others will be left behind which may lead to inequality if you don’t have the access (remote areas, no internet access) or resources to adapt to this rapid change.

On the other side, we have individuals like Geoff Hinton and Yoshua Bengio, who are often referred to as the "godfathers" of AI and deep learning. These individuals played crucial roles in the resurgence of AI, particularly with the development of neural networks and deep learning algorithms that revolutionized the field. They have been working and developing AI for over two decades (way before it was trendy, lol) and are skeptical about the future of AI. Geoff Hinton resigned from a position he held at Google for over a decade last month, telling the New York Times he made the decision so he could freely discuss “the dangers of A.I.”

The internet has trolls and a lot of misinformation, but most of it is created by humans, AI trolls can multiply into the millions in seconds and know you better than anyone else to steer your fears, and decisions, and to scam you. They can use voice and video to shift your thinking. Then we have deep fakes, AI weapons, autonomous systems that make decisions on malicious data they have been trained on, and the potential of AI becoming conscious, yeah it sounds crazy, but there is that possibility

Prudence is the word, that is what we need, perhaps not free reign, but government officials, psychologists, and educators need to get up to par with the pros and cons of AI in order to develop the technology in a prudent way. I would love to hear/read your thoughts…

❓Prompt of the Day

I want you to act as a note-taking assistant for a lecture. Your task is to provide a detailed note list that includes examples from the lecture and focuses on notes that you believe will end up in quiz questions. Additionally, please make a separate list for notes that have numbers and data in them and another separate list for the examples that are included in this lecture. The notes should be concise and easy to read.

🏆 OpenAI's GPT-4 Secures Top Spot in LLM Rankings

OpenAI's GPT-4 has emerged as the leading large language model (LLM) in a benchmark competition called the Chatbot Arena. With over 27,000 anonymous and randomized language model battles, GPT-4 claimed the first-place position in the rankings.

Check this and other amazing graphs showcasing the state of AI here.

💰 Of the $15 billion in total AI funding (excluding OpenAI), the most funded category is machine learning operations/platform tools.
